A five wicket haul to Luke Waterhouse and a brilliant century from skipper Tom Beaton has ensured WA remains unbeaten at the National Under 19 Championships in Canberra after a convincing seven wicket win over the Northern Territory today.
NT was dismissed for 242 after winning the toss and batting first. Bayswater-Morley paceman Waterhouse took 5-38 from 9.1 overs to give him 13 wickets for the tournament – four clear of the next best bowler in the aggregate charts.
NT were travelling along well at 3-186, but the dismissal of top-scorer Arnout Faveere for 63 triggered a collapse that saw them lose their last seven wickets for just 56 runs.
Johnathon Crowe (61) and Darcy Short (60) were the other NT batsmen to post half-centuries, while Darryl Mitchell, Andrew Cameron and Phil Adams took one wicket apiece for the West Aussies.
Scarborough opener Marcus Harris was promoted to open the innings and contributed 23 in a quickfire 43 run stand with Beaton.
The WA skipper belted the NT bowlers to all parts of the Stirling Oval, striking 135 from just 82 deliveries, including eight boundaries and an astonishing 12 sixes.
He shared in a 133-run stand with Aaron Todd (28) before he was dismissed with the total on 176.
Adams (41 not out from 36) and Sam Whiteman (13 not out) saw WA home to the win with 12.3 overs to spare and only three wickets down.
All teams will enjoy a rest today before commencing the two-day fixtures tomorrow, with WA to take on Victoria at the ANU North Oval on Thursday and Friday.
