Australia took just 17 minutes and 21 deliveries to bring the Third 3 mobile Test Match against the West Indies at the WACA Ground to a close on day five.
The visitors resumed today on 9-308, needing 51 runs to complete an unlikely win that would square the three-Test series at one-all, while the home side needed one wicket to complete a 2-nil series win.
Kemar Roach and Gavin Tonge struck three boundaries and added 15 to the overnight total as the 1100 fans that took advantage of free entry to the ground started to believe that the impossible could become a reality.
But Doug Bollinger had Roach caught behind for 17 with the third delivery of his second over of the morning to see the Windies dismissed for 323 and go down by 35 runs.
Roach called for the decision to be referred to third umpire Asad Rauf, but with no conclusive evidence available that he had not nicked the ball through to wicket-keeper Brad Haddin, the decision was referred back to central umpire Billy Bowden, who upheld his original ruling.
Gavin Tonge was left stranded on 23, while Bollinger collected his eighth wicket of the game.
Windies Captain Chris Gayle was named Man of the Match after scoring a brilliant century from just 70 deliveries in the first innings, and he was also awarded Man of the Series honours.
The Australians posted their first Test victory in Perth since the 2006-07 Ashes encounter, and retained the Frank Worrell Trophy in the process.
They will return to the WACA Ground late next month for two Commonwealth Bank Series one-day internationals against Pakistan on Friday 28 and Sunday 30 January. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster on 1300 136 122 or ticketmaster.com.au.
