The WACA takes great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Andrew Scotford to fill the newly created position of Cricket Operations Manager.
Scotford has over ten years of experience in sports management and joins the WACA from Cricket Australia, where he held the position of Umpire Manager for two and a half years.
Prior to working in cricket, Scotford was Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Volleyball Federation for seven years.
WACA Chief Executive Officer Graeme Wood said it was exciting to announce the appointment of an outstanding candidate.
“After an exhaustive review of our cricket operations and a thorough recruitment process, we are delighted to have secured someone of Andrew's ability,” Wood said.
“Andrew will oversee our High Performance Programs and outcomes for playing, coaching and umpiring. He will also commence a cricket facilities review and build strong relationships with all District cricket stakeholders.
“During his time at Cricket Australia (CA), Andrew was involved in implementing an umpire review with a focus on professional development for both umpires and umpire management, and he was involved in the implementation of CA's innovation strategy. He was also recently named Cricket Australia's Employee of the Year for 2009.
“Within his role at the Australian Volleyball Federation, he undertook a strategic and structural review and introduced constitutional change to deliver streamlined management of volleyball in Australia.
“Andrew has been recognised internationally for his outstanding administration skills, and is known for being process driven, energetic and passionate. He will be an outstanding acquisition for WA cricket.”
Scotford says his experience in sports management has equipped him with a range of skills and these will be a great asset in his new role.
“I firmly believe that Western Australian cricket is on the verge of an exciting period, as evidenced by strong results at recent under age tournaments and the emergence of several talented players at the elite level,” Scotford said.
“WA has provided the Captain of the Australian Under 19 team at the upcoming ICC World Cup in Mitchell Marsh, and we have also seen players like Wes Robinson step up to be a consistent performer at interstate level after several prolific seasons in the WACA District competition.
“Everyone who is affiliated with cricket in WA should have the goal of helping to lead Western Australian cricket back to the top, and I am looking forward to devoting all of my energy and enthusiasm to the task of leading the WACA's Cricket Operations team.”
Scotford begins his role with the WACA on Monday 25 January 2010.
