The Retravision Warriors have the job ahead of them as the West End Redbacks took the honours on day one of the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield match at the WACA Ground.
At stumps the visitors were 1-17 in their first innings, trailing by 267 after dismissing the home side late in the day for 284.
Redbacks Captain Daniel Harris won his second toss in a row at the WACA Ground and had no hesitation bowling first on a wicket that looked to have a bit of life and was sure to offer early assistance for the bowlers.
Warriors openers Wes Robinson and Liam Davis negotiated the early stages with ease, racing to an 80-run opening stand. But just as the pair were looking comfortable at the crease, Robinson departed for 36 and Davis followed shortly after for 44.
Skipper Marcus North and his deputy Adam Voges put on 79 for thr third wicket to get the home side back on track, but the game then swung dramatically as the Redbacks took control through Jake Haberfield and Dan Christian.
North (29) and Voges (54) were dismissed in quick succession, and Ford Ranger Cup centurion Luke Pomersbach (one) joined them in the pavillion as WA went to tea on 5-196.
Mitchell Marsh looked solid in scoring 21, but the ICC Under 19 World Cup-winning Captain was out in the first over after lunch, becoming in-form all-rounder Christian's third wicket. Haberfield also had three to his name.
Ashley Noffke made nine before he fell to Gary Putland and gave the left-armer his maiden first class wicket on his South Australian debut.
Luke Ronchi struck a free-flowing 41 from 55 deliveries, and Steve Magoffin was denied another first class half-century after being run out for 42. Number 11 Michael Hogan drove a Putland delivery back down the ground, only to see the Redbacks quick get a hand on it and deflect back onto the stumps at the non-strikers' end.
Christian finished with 4-63 from 20 overs to be the pick of the Redbacks' bowlers, while Haberfield (3-64) and Putland (2-68) were the other successful bowlers.
The Warriors were hoping for a breakthrough prior to the close of play and Michael Hogan delivered by knocking over Harris with his second ball for no score.
James Smith (14 not out) will resume with the dangerous Michael Klinger (four not out) when play gets under way at the WACA Ground tomorrow morning from 10.30.
Meanwhile, the NSW Second XI is 4-167 at stumps on day one after being sent in to bat by WA Second XI Captain Michael Swart in the four-day match currently being played at Blacktown Olympic Park.
The start of play was delayed by almost four hours due to a wet wicket and outfield. Ryan Duffield, Matt Johnston and Phil Adams have one wicket each.
