Melville Cricket Club recently hosted a women's Six-a-Side cricket day at Tompkins Park with great success.
Western Fury players were present and allocated a team each to give inexperienced players a chance to rub shoulders with the State's best female cricketers.
With rain overnight there was concern there would be no play, but on arrival to the ground the ovals looked in great nick and play got underway.
12 teams entered on the day with the first round commencing at 9.15am. Midland-Guildford took on the WACA Under 17 team while Melville battled it out with Subiaco-Marist.
Western Fury player Amanda Williams took full advantage of the conditions, smashing her way to 41 not out in the 5 over innings versus Midland-Guildford.
Fellow Western Fury and Southern Stars player Lauren Ebsary was not to be outdone, she came in and plundered the attack along with former Fury player turned selector Heather Taylor.
With a few balls remaining in the opening round the heavens opened and drenched everyone and the day had to be cancelled.
WACA female cricket coordinator Jenny Wallace believes the concept gives an opportunity for the novice and budding professional to meet and have fun with our great game.
“The Six-a-Side concept is aimed at getting female cricketers involved in a fun environment. The opportunity to play with the Fury players was extremely well received and there has been some really exciting talent on display,” Wallace said.
“It was disappointing the weather didn't go our way but everyone involved had an absolute ball.
“We are planning another crack at staging the day and urge all interested to come down and have some fun and hopefully carry on playing our great game following the experience,” said Wallace.
