The Western Fury lost to Guildford Grammar First XI at Guildford Grammar College last Saturday in perfect conditions for cricket.
The Fury batted first and lost an early wicket of the in form Angele Gray with the score on 2.
Fellow opener Donna Brown combined with Amanda Williams to steady the ship momentarily until Williams was bowled and the Fury stumbled with the score on 2-32.
Former NSW and Australian representative and current Fury top order bat Jenny Wallace strode to the crease and impressed with some quality ground strokes as she and Brown pushed the score along to 2-69.
Wallace was caught out the next over which brought Lauren Stammers into the contest.
She consolidated the innings with Brown until both left with the score on 92 to leave the Fury reeling at 5-92.
Fury Middle order bat Peta Merrilees was next in and went about restoring scoreboard respectability hitting a magnificent 41 not out to steer her side to 6-181 with the aid of Emily Rixon (21).
The Guildford Grammar run chase started disastrously losing an early wicket to Fury speedster Rene Farrell who was mobbed by her teammates after claiming her first wicket in the black and gold.
Lauren Stammers picked up the scalp of the other Guildford Grammar opener LBW for 21 as the Fury got a sniff at 2-61.
The joy ended there as Matt Daniel (79 not out) and Peter Harrison (48 not out) steadied their side and brought up the winning runs to record the eight wicket win.
Rene Farrell (1-19) and Lauren Stammers (1-17) were the pick of the Fury bowlers.
The Fury now turn their attention to their opening WNCL fixture versus the SA Scorpions on November 29&30 at Aquinas College Oval.
