South Perth strung back to back wins together by beating Midland-Guildford at Lilac Hill on Sunday. South Perth won the toss and sent the Middies into bat on a green wicket and the decision to bowl proved to be a crucial one as South Perth and WA Second XI bowler Brooke Zoutman snared two wickets in two balls during the fourth over of the day. Zoutman bowled superbly to finish with outstanding figures of 2-6 from 4 overs. South Perth seamer Shelby Vitali kept the blowtorch on Midland-Guildford claiming 2-19 from 5 overs including the prized wicket of Heather Taylor (45) who kept her side afloat throughout the innings. The South Perth run chase started positively with Gillian Ingham (31) pushing her side's total toward victory. Young indigenous player Kirsty Morrison (25) formed the match winning partnership with Fury all-rounder Rene Farrell (24 not out) to bring up the dominant win for the loss of just three wickets. Former Fury bowler Mel ‘Rowdy' Horn (1-21) was the pick of the Middie bowlers as Midland-Guildford remain winless to commence season 2008-2009. Subiaco-Marist made it three in a row to commence the 2008-2009 SunSmart Women's competition by rolling Rockingham-Mandurah last Sunday. Subi-Marist batted first and immediately set about making a big total with Fury veteran Angele Gray (72) and Emma King (71) making brilliant knocks to put their side on top early. Avril Fahey also chipped in with a handy 55 in the middle order as Subi made an imposing 5-262. Rockingham-Mandurah never looked in the hunt as they lost wickets at regular intervals to be rolled for 181 in the 32nd over. Off-spinning all rounders Avril Fahey (3-24) and Emma King (2-22) bowled beautifully to claim the best figures with the ball. Fury seamer Kate Burns (2-23) also chipped in with the ball to help complete the excellent win. Melville spinner Renee Chappell (6-23) took a wrecking ball to Tuart Hill's batting order to sew up the 7 wicket win at Tompkins Park on Sunday. Tuart Hill won the toss and elected to bat first which ended up being a disastrous decision as wickets fell regularly. Tuart Hill bat Rachel Reynolds (49) continued her rich vein of form as she guided her side to a respectable 120 all out. Melville's run chase never looked in doubt as Fury squad member Donna Brown backed up her brilliant start to the season smashing 44 not out and combining with Renee Chappell (25) to bring up the winning runs in style.
