Round four of the 2008-2009 SunSmart Women's Competition managed only one fixture with the South Perth/Melville and Rockingham-Mandurah/Tuart Hill games being cancelled due to bad weather.
Midland-Guildford hosted Subiaco-Marist in what was being billed as a season defining game for the Middies.
Subiaco-Marist won the toss and elected to bat in beautiful conditions for cricket.
In form Subi opener Angele Gray continued her promising start to the season by pushing the score along to 19 in no time before fellow opener Emma King was run out for a duck bringing Rachel Bench to the crease.
Bench (28) top scored and combined with Gray (22) and skipper Avril Fahey (20) to push their side toward a competitive total.
Subi shared the runs around nicely with 6 players scoring in double figures as they finished with 162 all out of 48.2 overs.
Midland-Guildford seamer Melissa Horn impressed again with the ball taking 3-24 of 9.2 overs including one maiden.
Melissa Holmes (2-16), Nicole Jorre De St Jorre (2-24) and Maddison Smith (2-37) shared the rest of the wickets in an impressive display in the field for Midland-Guildford.
The Middies' run chase started positively with Heather Taylor and Fury bat Jenny Wallace combining for a 43 run opening stand until Taylor became Avril Fahey's first victim stumped for 28.
Wallace combined with Nicole Jorre De St Jorre to consolidate the innings before she was caught by Emma King from the bowling of Fahey for the top score 34.
Melissa Holmes entered the fray and played superbly to complete an excellent all round display and all of a sudden, Midland –Guildford seemed to be getting on top.
Jorre De St Jorre was bowled by Fahey for 11 which triggered a middle order collapse of 6-56 as Midland-Guildford slumped to be all out for 138.
Holmes was the last bat out for 30 and together with her 2-16, was a stand out performer on the day.
Subiaco-Marist remain undefeated and are in ominous form entering round five which gets underway this Sunday 5 November 2008, all games commence at 12:15pm.
Tuart Hill clash with South Perth at Charles Veryard, Midland-Guildford host Rockingham-Mandurah at Lilac Hill while Subiaco-Marist battle it out with Melville in a top of the table clash at Newman Park Upper.
