The WACA's Female State Match Committee has selected the 13 player squad for the Western Fury's first Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) match against the SA Scorpions on 29 and 30 November 2008, at Aquinas College Oval.
The Cricket Australia Women's (CAW) Cup squad has also been announced, which is the Fury's Second XI team.
Western Fury Head Coach Steve Philippe says the Western Fury squad is in excellent shape.
“There is great depth and an ideal blend of youth and experience,” Philippe said.
“The squad has been in training since July and all players are extremely keen to get the season underway.”
The Cricket Australia Cup is the national women's Second XI Competition and takes place in Hobart from 14 to 18 December. Western Australia has entered a team for the first time and will play against six other states and territories in a combined Twenty20 and 50 over-a-side format.
CAW Cup Coach David Fitzgerald believes the concept is a great bonus for the Fury.
“The CAW Cup gives our fringe Fury players a chance to step up and take on greater responsibility within the side,” Fitzgerald said.
“Our young, developing players get a chance to compete against talented players from around the country.
“They also get an opportunity to get noticed by the Fury selectors and push for a WNCL berth.
“It is a great concept that we are excited to be part of.”
WACA High Performance Manager Doug Harris is confident both squads will represent WA with pride.
“The Fury and the CAW Cup training programs have been comprehensive and aimed at giving our female talent a chance to develop their games,” said Harris.
“Exciting times lie ahead for both squads and I am looking forward to seeing our players develop over this summer.”
The Western Fury's double-header against the SA Scorpions begins at 10am on Saturday 29 November. Entry is free to the public.
