Jenkin Wins Top DSR Coaches Award
11 June 2013

Western Fury coach Steve Jenkin has won the Department of Sport & Recreation's Coach of the Year award at the Industry Sports Coaches and Officials Awards night.

Jenkin headed the field of State sporting coaches after making a brilliant impact in his first season at the Western Fury, leading the side to their first WNCL finals campaign in 13 years.

The coach also guided the Western Fury to their first-ever appearance in the WT20 Grand Final where they narrowly went down to the Lend Lease NSW Breakers.

"It was a pleasure to win it," said Jenkin, who previously led Australia's women's national team to ICC World Cup glory in 2005.

"But it's a result of the work done by the girls and the support staff. I'm just party to all of that."

Jenkin has previously coached the Lend Lease NSW Breakers to five consecutives WNCL titles prior to taking over the Australia job in 2001.

The 59-year-old has also coached the New Zealand national team and worked as a senior coach at Cricket Australia's Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.
