The Alcohol.Think Again Female A-Grade 50-Over competition commenced on Sunday, with South Perth and Midland-Guildford carrying their impressive form over from the T20 season with first-up victories.

South Perth proved far too dominant for University at the UWA Sports Park, with Mel Cameron showing her class with a patient 74.

Cameron hit five boundaries in her knock, as the visitors posted a commanding 9-249.

Nicky Shaw narrowly missed out on a half century with 49, with University captain Rebecca Grundy capturing four wickets.

Despite Grundy’s best efforts, her side fell 62 runs short. The skipper smashed 60 from 68 balls, with the Sky Blues sharing the wickets between the strike bowlers.

Midland-Guildford and Melville played out a thriller at Lilac Hill, with the hosts prevailing by two wickets in a tense affair.

Melville captain Niamh Walsh led the charge with a half-century for the visitors, while Beth Dawson ripped through the lower order with 5-28.

Midland-Guildford eventually reached the target of 126 in the 37th over, with Mel Holmes top scoring with 30.

Subiaco Floreat had the bye.
