Melville has caused a major upset on Sunday, defeating the
previously unbeaten South Perth in Round Four of the Alcohol.Think Again Female
50-Over A-Grade competition by seven wickets at Tompkins Park.
The result moves the Storm up into second position as they
successfully chased 101 for victory.
Melville managed victory in a canter, reaching the total in
the 21st over only three wickets down.
Skipper Niamh Walsh was crucial with the bat, unbeaten on
31, with Rebecca West also a strong contributor with 33.
Earlier Renee Chappell did the damage with the ball taking
two scalps, while Jenny Wallace chipped in with multiple wickets to restrict
South Perth to 8-100. Mel Cameron was the only standout with 38.
Elsewhere, Subiaco Floreat hammered University by 10 wickets
in the clash of the bottom-placed sides at James Oval.
Lizzy Alderson and Lauren Nicholson were vital, combining
for a 131-run opening stand to finish the game.
Alderson scored 64 from 56, while Nicholson was impressive
Earlier, Uni was restricted to just 9-130, with Jess Humby
and Jess Emery both taking two wickets each. Tansi Price was the only batter to
show fight with 66.
