Midland-Guildford Wins Female T20 Flag
19 February 2017

Midland-Guildford have cruised to a nine-wicket win in the Female A-Grade T20 Grand Final against South Perth at the WACA Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The win was made even sweeter for Midland-Guildford, who were beaten by Melville in last season’s final.

Bhavisha Devchand won the Player of the Match medal, presented by West Australian women’s cricket pioneer Avril Fahey, after taking 3-17 with the ball coupled with a match-winning 49 not out.

Swans captain Chloe Piparo won the toss and sent the Sky Blues into bat, a brave call against the undefeated Sky Blues.

However, wrist spinner Devchand claimed three wickets early in South Perth’s innings, which had the Blues in trouble at 3-31 after eight overs.

South Perth bounced back thanks to a brilliant 80-run partnership between Nicky Shaw (39) and Heather Siegers (30) to help guide them to a competitive total of 5-114.

With no Elyse Villani in the Swans line up, Midland-Guildford’s chances of winning relied heavy on the shoulders of Perth Scorchers batter Piparo.

The Swans got off to a shaky start with Taneale Peschel run out on five.

Peschel’s wicket brought Devchand to the crease, and Midland-Guildford never looked back.

Piparo (59no) and Devchand (49no) combined for 93 runs between them which included nine boundaries, guiding them to victory.
