Mackin earned a WA rookie contract ahead of the 2013-14 season after solid form at District level with Willetton. The young fast bowler made his WA debut in the Sheffield Shield against Tasmania in December 2013. He also played for the Chairman's XI against England in the same season, taking the wickets of Ian Bell, Matt Prior and Joe Root. Mackin only managed the one Shield appearance in 2013-14, but has kicked on in 2014-15, becoming a staple part of the Warriors attack. The beanpole quick took eight wickets against Tasmania in Hobart in November 2014.
